3 Pillars of Good Health – Getting Back on Track

The last couple of months have been difficult, to say the least. When life gets tough we usually are just trying to survive and can hardly focus on anything else. And really at the end of the day, there is not much that we can control.  But we can take some action to get back on track. We can take control of our health.

Our overall health is made up of so many things that sometimes we just don’t know where to start. I believe if we start with three areas we can start building the life we desire.

I see it in my clients all the time when they lack confidence they do not go after the things they want in their life.  In order to build the confidence I believe we need to start with these three pillars of good health.

Getting Back On Track

Three Pillars of Good Health

These three pillars of good health are mindfulness, meal planning, and consistent workouts. Once we start working on these foundations we will start gaining the confidence to go after what we want in life.  Those things like dating, job advancement, starting your own business, or whatever you desire. We tend to hold our selves back if we don’t have confidence.

Mindfulness

Mindfulness is a broad term meaning “being in the moment”.  When we start our health journey and decide to get “healthy” we usually start a new “diet”.  I not a fan of this.  I believe we need to start with a lifestyle change.  Paying attention to what we are eating or not eating instead of going through the motions on what someone tells us to eat or not eat. Paying attention to how you feel after you eat something.  Do you have energy or are you tired?

Just because someone says it is “healthy” doesn’t mean it is for you.  For instance, not too long ago I realized Farro makes me tired and lethargic.  Farro is an ancient grain that has been around for a long time and has health benefits. However, it does not work for me.

Pay attention to how food makes you feel.  The more mindful you are the better decisions you can make.

Meal Planning

I use to think meal planning was the same thing as meal prep and I had to take a day to do it. But meal planning doesn’t have to be difficult. It is actually quite easy if you have the right things in your freezer, refrigerator, and pantry.   So it all starts at the grocery store.  Make your list of your favorite healthy meals and make sure you have those items available.

Consistent Workouts

Find the right workout for you so that you will be consistent.  Consistency is the key.  It doesn’t mean you have to work out every day, in fact your body does need time to rest and recover.

One thing, some of my clients tell me is that they HATE to work out but they do it because it is good for them.  The problem with this is when things get tough or they get out of the routine it takes them so long to go back to the workouts because they don’t like it.  Find something that you look forward to.  Find something that is fun. Even better find a friend to do it with!
