Just Call Me DD – My Grandmother Name

I will now be known as DD.  Yes, you heard it right here.  I am officially becoming a grandmother around the end of June.  To say that I am excited is an understatement.

Dreaming Of Becoming A Grandmother

I have been dreaming of this time in my life for a long time.  In fact, looking back it seems I am always looking forward to the next phase or chapter of my life.  When I was in high school, I couldn’t wait to start college.  Then when I was in college I couldn’t wait to get out and get a job.  Then I was hoping to get married, then children. It seems like I have had a hard time enjoying the moments along the way.

Don’t get me wrong, there have been times that I have enjoyed and savored the moment but I definitely have been one to look ahead.  As I have gotten older I understand the importance to enjoy each moment even when they aren’t the best.  I know from experience it will not last, the good or bad moments.

My son (Carter) and daughter-in-law (Shannon)  have been together since they were 15 years old and they are almost 28 now.  So I have thought about becoming a grandmother for at least 10 years.

Coming up with a grandmother name was easy for me, I knew I wanted my grandchildren to call me DD.  However, I know some of my friends have really struggled with finding the right name.  I would love to hear some of your favorite names in the comments.

I am one of those annoying mothers-in-law that are constantly talking about wanting to become a grandmother.  Finally, I figured it would happen sooner or later and I stopped bugging my son and daughter-in-law about it.  Luckily I didn’t have to wait too long for them to announce they were expecting.

The only problem is when they told me that I was going to be a grandmother, they told me that I couldn’t tell.  Do you have any idea how hard it is for me to keep a secret!  Especially, something like that.

Once Shannon was past the 12-week mark I was sure I was going to get to tell everyone but I still had to keep it a secret for a few more days.

Gender Reveal For My Grandchild

Shannon and Carter decided they wanted to have a reveal party with family and a few friends.  I was so excited to host it at my house.  They both love cookie cake so they decided to do the cookie cake reveal as I talked about in this post.

We had about 15 people over and I served this Baked Ziti recipe that my friend Jamie gave me.  It was a hit.  We added a Kale Salad from Costco, and french bread that Cole made.  It was a very easy menu, especially since I am not a big cook. (And no, it was not on the approved list for FASTer Way).  But I really couldn’t have pulled it off without my helper, Cole.

When everyone got to my house, we immediately had to do the reveal to find out. We took a poll of what everyone thought it was going to be and most of the girls thought girl and most of the boys though boy.  In the back of my mind, I really thought it was going to be a boy.

So I was surprised to find out it was a girl!  I am actually going to have a granddaughter!   There are so many emotions that flow through me knowing that I will finally be a grandmother.

It is hard to put into words everything I am feeling about being a grandmother and having a granddaughter.  Especially after having 3 sons.  If you have been following me for a while you may know I have 2 fathers (my father died when I was 28 and my mother remarried my stepfather), 2 brothers, 3 husbands (only 1 currently), and 3 sons.  I have more men in my life than most people.  I love these guys but I am so ready for a girl!
