In my last blog post, one of my goals for 2018 is to get more sleep. The benefits of getting enough sleep are so important to our health and wellness.
We all want a magic pill to fix whatever we need to work on. That would be easy, just take the pill and you instantly lose weight, sleep well, or whatever you want. There just is no magic pill or instant fix for anything. We have to decide and make the choice for ourselves. Working on ourselves will be an ongoing theme on my blog.
The truth is there is no one thing that works for everyone. We are all different and we all make different choices based on what is most important to us.
Why I Can’t Sleep
When I was younger, I slept great. I had no problem falling asleep. Actually, I didn’t have any problems until I went through my first divorce. Ever since then, I have struggled with sleep. I have been prescribed several different prescriptions drugs that have helped. But I really don’t like taking prescription drugs to sleep.
I know there are so many benefits to getting enough sleep. This past year, I have been trying different things to help me fall asleep and sleep better.
A regular routine has been helpful to sleeping better. I try to go to bed between 10:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. I usually fix myself a cup of hot herbal tea (no caffeine) an hour before I am ready to go to bed. In my research, I have found it is important to turn the tv, computer, and phone off at least an hour before bedtime. This is something I am working towards. I am still not there yet.
Also, I have added some supplements to my routine. Pure Essence Adrenal Stability has played a big role in helping me with sleep along with other benefits. You can buy it here. Magnesium and L-theanine are other great supplements for sleep.
Meditation has been another key factor in helping me sleep. Every night, my husband and I listen to a meditation on an app. The app we have been using lately is Insight Timer. I would highly recommend it.
Exercise is another factor that is important in getting enough sleep. I enjoy exercise so that hasn’t been a problem for me. Adding yoga this year has really helped with my overall mental health.
