One of the main reasons I started this blog is to learn and encourage others to live a healthier lifestyle. I have always considered myself healthy. Exercise has always been a big part of my life. I have never been overweight or battled any sort of health problems. However, as I have gotten older and wiser I realize that those things are just one piece of the puzzle. There is so much more to a healthy lifestyle.
Both of my parents died from cancer and my step-father is battling Dementia. Each of them I would have considered led a healthy lifestyle. My parents both played tennis and worked hard. My step-father played golf, was an avid reader and did a weekly crossword puzzle. Why would they get these diseases?
Meet Ali Miller With Naturally Nourished
I now believe that our food today plays a big part in our healthy lifestyles. After researching and learning more about The Keto Diet, I found Ali Miller. Ali Miller started Naturally Nourished, a Houston-based functional nutrition practice in 2011. I started following her, listening to her Podcasts and receiving her emails. Right away, I knew she was someone I wanted you to know about.
I spoke with Ali on the phone last week. My first question to Ali was where would be a good entry place to learn more about functional medicine and what she offers. She talked about her foundational programs depending on if you had chronic health problems or if you just want to optimize your overall health. All of the programs can be used together or separately.
We talked about a good place to start is the 10 Day Real Food Detox Class. In this program, you will learn about ways to Reset your metabolism, Restore your digestion, and Renew your cellular health using real food. There are supplements that go along with this program which takes it from just healthy eating to a therapeutic biochemical supported detox.
Ketosis Weight Loss Program
I have had several people ask me what I eat in a day since I posted about my weight loss here. Stay tuned, that post is coming. Ali’s virtual ketosis weight loss program might be a great option for you. This program is comprehensive and is good for someone trying ketosis out for the first time or someone that has been in ketosis. She will be starting another one in March. I will keep you posted.
Becoming a Virtual Patient
Ali and I discussed what would be the best option for me. She suggested that I get the micronutrient panel done. Since I have been doing ketosis for a while this will show if I am getting the nutrients that I need. There is 2 options panel A or panel B. The difference is panel B gives me a more in-depth lab interpretation with personalized supplement and diet intervention recommendations, with focus on functional medicine or a thorough meal plan.
