I am sure you have heard the saying “A smile is worth a thousand words.” Giving someone a smile can brighten up someone’s day in a matter of seconds. But what if you are self-conscious of smiling because your teeth don’t look there best. Teeth whitening can help.
As we grow older so many different things start happening with our bodies. One thing that happens to most people as they age is their teeth can start to darken. It can happen for various reasons but there are things we can do to help.
Right before I got married 4 years ago, I got my teeth whitened in my dentist’s office. I can’t remember exactly how long it took but I was pleased with the results. My dentist also made me whitening trays to use later. Using the trays have helped me to maintain the whiteness of my teeth.
My dentist does not use the in-office teeth whitening any longer because it worked on some but not as well as others. They use the Colgate Optic White Professional take-home kit. This seems to work well for most people. The dental hygienist suggests you use the trays for 30 minutes every day for a week to 10 days to see the best results. After that, you can use for touch-ups.
I have noticed when I use the Colgate Optic White for teeth whitening, my teeth become very sensitive. This happens to some people and not others, we are all different. To alleviate the sensitivity the dental hygienist instructed me to start using Sensodyne toothpaste a couple of weeks before using my teeth whitening trays.
Dental health is important to our overall health. Brushing and flossing your teeth is the MOST important. The number one goal is to keep your teeth. Research has shown that there may be a direct link between the health of our gums and teeth and chronic diseases that affect us as we age, including Alzheimer’s disease, heart disease, and diabetes.
